Director/Co-Director:

This position is available for students in their MS3 year who have previously served on the NFC Steering Committee. The ideal candidate will be organized with excellent attention to detail and communication skills, have great leadership skills, and able to handle acute issues well. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– schedule Steering Committee meetings
– meet with clinic sponsors/benefactors
– manage collaborations with other organizations in Howard University, HUCM, and HUH
– advise and oversee committees
– meet with the NFC Faculty Advisory Board to ensure our adherence to current clinical practice
– actively maintain Policies and Procedures in collaboration with committee and faculty advisors
– oversee clinic operations, in collaboration with Operations Manager and Clinic Manager Chair
– manage steering committee meetings and ensure proper meeting minutes

Operations Manager:

This position is available for students in their MS2 or MS3 year who have either served as Clinical Managers or served on the Steering committee/ sub-committee. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– order and keep inventory of medical and office supplies
– address the needs of other subcommittees related to the clinic’s operation
– ensure that the clinic is adequately staffed and runs efficiently
– coordinate between clinic manager, attending recruitment, volunteer recruitment, and front desk managers
– handle any acute issues that may arise, in collaboration with director/co-director.
– ensure follow up of any patient issues, studies (labs/imaging), referrals, etc

Clinical Manager Chair:

This position is available for students in their MS2 or MS3 year who have either served as Clinical Managers or served on the Steering committee/ sub-committee. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– recruit and train Clinical Managers
– schedule Clinic Managers for their shifts and remind them, when needed
– ensure every clinic night is staffed with a Clinic Manager
– manage a team of at least 10 Clinical Managers (2nd and 3rd year students) and be available as resource to clinical managers for questions
– actively maintain clinic manager manual in clinic

Finance and Fundraising Chairs:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3 year. Past experience in finance/treasury is a plus. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– approve and record all purchases made on Clinic’s behalf
– ensure that funds are used properly and efficiently
– coordinate the purchases and disbursement of funds with designated faculty or staff designated by the College of Medicine
– renew ongoing grants/scholarships
– apply for appropriate grants and programs to fund clinical/academic operations managed by NFC

Attending/Student Recruitment Chairs:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3. The ideal candidate will be organized, efficient, and professional in communications with attending physicians. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– seek out physicians to act as Attending Physicians during Clinic hours
– schedule recruited physicians for Clinic days
– organize opportunities to recruit new physicians.
– provide attending physicians with information regarding clinic operations prior to volunteering in the clinic

Student Recruitment:

This position is available for one MS1, MS2, and MS4 each and two MS3s. MS3/MS4 student(s) will be chair, others will be liaisons for their respective class. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– recruit student volunteers
– schedule volunteers and set email reminders
– coordinate training sessions in collaboration with Volunteer Training Chair
– organize opportunities to recruit new volunteers

Volunteer Training Chair:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3 year. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– hold training sessions in order to instruct how to do a proper physical exam/write a patient note and provide handouts or videos to enhance learning
– manage volunteer training manual in clinic
– orient volunteers to the general principles of the clinic’s operations

Research Chair:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3 year. The ideal candidate will have research experience, excellent/professional communication skills with colleagues and faculty. MPH or other professional degrees, is a plus. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– oversee research projects
– manage research team
– coordinate and collaborate with faculty researchers
– provide data to Steering Committee for various purposes, such as annual reports, etc.
– collaborate with Steering Committee on data collection/reporting, where appropriate
– spearhead regular Quality Assurance checks and collaborate with necessary committee members to develop plans to work towards and monitor improvement

Community Outreach Program Chair:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3 year. Those who apply for this position will be required to:
– create and coordinate events such as OraQuick testing nights at the NFC, patient education, provision of educational material, HIV testing in the community, and other initiatives to create awareness of HIV/AIDS
– organize health fairs and outreach events in the community, local churches and shelters.
– work closely with the HUH Cancer Center and other community programs like AfriCare and CIDMAR

Social Services Chair:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3 year. Those who apply for this position are required to:
– act as liaison with administrators from School of Social Work and College of Pharmacy
– manage social worker volunteers, pharmacy compliance navigators, and patient navigators
– provide clinic with educational material to give patients regarding their conditions and services that might be available to them
– actively maintain clinic resource manual

Public Relations Chair:

This position is available for students in their MS1, MS2, or MS3 year. Those who apply for this position are required to:
– produce emails, ads, fliers, or other informational texts to the HUCM students and to the DC community
– manage the NFC website & HUCM bulletin board
– generate media publicity (newspaper/magazine ads)

Dermatology Clinic Coordinator

This position is available for students in their MS2 or MS3 year who have previously volunteered with the New Freedmen’s Dermatology Clinic. The ideal candidate will be interested in dermatology, organized, efficient, proficient in communication skills, and an excellent leader. Those who apply to this position will be required to:

-Coordinate between the dermatology attending physician, clinical volunteers, and NFC directors
-Advise and oversee clinical volunteers
-Schedule 1-2 volunteers for dermatology clinic days
-Confirm scheduled appointments with patients
-Seek opportunities to recruit new patients
-Coordinate a training session with clinical volunteers
-Handle any acute issues that may arise, in collaboration with director/co-director
